Prime Minister Narendra Modi has become the latest figure to be transformed into AI-generated Studio Ghibli-style artwork, as the Indian government shared a stunning collection of images depicting key moments from his tenure in the iconic Japanese animation style.
Posting on its official X account on Friday, the government captioned the images, “Main character? No. He’s the whole storyline. Experience New India in Studio Ghibli strokes.”
The AI-generated artworks present Modi in a dreamy, pastel-colored aesthetic reminiscent of Hayao Miyazaki’s films. The collection includes images of him in diplomatic meetings with world leaders like former US President Donald Trump and French President Emmanuel Macron, donning an Indian Army uniform while holding the Tricolour, and standing beside the historic ‘Sengol’ sceptre in the new Parliament building. Other AI-crafted frames depict his sortie in a Tejas Twin Seat Light Combat Aircraft, his presence at a Vande Bharat train, his visit to the Maldives, and his participation in the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan cleanliness drive.
The trend has captivated social media, with Congress leader Shashi Tharoor also joining in. Sharing his own AI-generated Studio Ghibli-style portraits, he posted, “I’ve been assimilated into the Ghibli trend! These are pics sent by my supporters and well-wishers. Didn’t even know what Ghibli was till now, but consider me officially Spirited Away by this newfound revelation.”
AI-powered tools, such as Ghibli Diffusion, allow users to create artwork inspired by Studio Ghibli’s signature style with just a text prompt. The trend has flooded social media feeds with soft-colored, intricately detailed, and visually stunning AI-generated Ghibli-style portraits, captivating netizens worldwide.
